STONE choreography work, at Basement 21 choreography residency- March Dance , Chennai15 March 2024
Dileep chanced upon the idea for “Stone „ amongst one of his frequent visits to a riverside by his friends house . As he laid on the stones gathered around the sides of the river , he observed the impression it made on his body and mind . The calmness, the connect he felt between his body and the stones. An instinctive attempt to curate this idea had him place a few pebbles on his vertebrate and develop a spinal movement as a response to weight and sound of pebbles and water.
Stone is developed as a site specific production that transports the audience to the evening that Dileep found himself by the riverside. Visually the audience are made to feel like they are looking down through a well (aerial view), which enables them to fully immerse in dileep‘s world . This was inspired by an cultural celebration
practice in his hometown known as “Maranakinner“.
The piece then dabbles with the second reminiscences of stones for Dileep, which is a road down his childhood memories ,a game with stones know as five stones in English and various other regional specific names throughout south India . It is an integral part of culture for growing up kids. This is when the piece becomes interactive and invites audience to play the game on stage, more like an invitation experience through him and with him.
